Wenxin Zhang was born in 1989 and currently lives in Anhui. She has received a MFA degree at California College of the Arts in 2013.
Her solo exhibitions include: “Time Burns”, Surplus Space, Wuhan (2017), “Beast by the Waterfall Guesthouse”, Artist Telivision Gallery, San Francisco (2014).
Her group exhibitions include “The Ecstasy of Time”, He Xiangning Museum, Shenzhen (October 2017), “The Staged Club”, Hongkun Museum, Beijing (October 2017), “DATENTRÄUME”, Goethe Institut, Beijing (2017), “A Space-Time of Transitional Desires”, The Clemente, New York (2016), “The Second Three Shadows Experimental Image Open Exhibition”, Three Shadows Photographic Art Center, Beijing, China (2015), “Open Seas”, Kala Art Institute, Berkeley (2015).
She was an artist in residence and exhibited at Wassaic Project (Wassaic, NY) in 2013 and Woodstock Center for Photography (Woodstock, NY) in 2014.
In 2016, Zhang has formed a multi-media band and performed in New York.
Her artist writing as well as art reviews have been published by numerous art magazines including LEAP and Art World.
Zhang utilizes video, CG, photography and installation, as well as combines writing and music to create process-oriented perceptual experience that usually starts from everyday experience and then grows into the continuous reflections on time and transcendence.
Zhang was a receiver of the Magnum Foundation Atlantic Philanthropies Grant in 2016, and she was selected as British Journal of Photograph’s 2016 New Talent. She was also a finalist in 2014 Three Shadows Photography Award and the 2014 Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award.
